New Lenten sermon series: “Seven Last Words”

As I mentioned on Sunday and in a previous entry, during the season of Lent, we’re going to focus on the seven last statements of Christ, which he spoke from the cross. (These are traditionally referred to as “words,” but the words here are literally statements. Like when the TV announcer used to say, “Now a word form our sponsor,” he didn’t mean that the sponsor only spoke one literal word!)

One problem, of course, is that there are seven last words but only six Sundays in Lent. As you can see from the following schedule, I combine Jesus’ final words in Luke and John on the sixth Sunday. If you missed the first one, I will post the manuscript soon.
